EJOT TEAM TV Buschhütten triathletes finished in 6 of the top 15 positions at the opening ITU World Triathlon Series race in Sydney at the weekend.

SKINS has been providing compression products to EJOT TEAM TV Buschhütten since 2010, the athletes use RY400 products for recovery, A400 Calf Tights MX and the A200 Active range. They also wear items for the C400 range for cycle training.

Germany’s Steffen Justus broke through for the biggest win of his ITU career, in an elite men’s ITU World Triathlon Series race that had twists and turns at every corner in Sydney on Saturday.

“The swim was solid. I’m not the best swimmer, so I sat in the middle of the pack. In the bike I tried to stay in the top 10-15, but it was such a big group today; it’s quite dangerous in the middle. Transition two was good for me and I had a good run out,” Justus said.

“Alexander (Bryukhankov) made a fast run in the front, so it was good for me because it split the pack. From 6km mark I tried to push a bit and he dropped; so I kept running and running to make a bigger gap and make it to the finish line.”

SKINS is the official apparel supplier to Bike NZ, enabling the country’s elite track and road athletes to compete in the latest technology-driven cycling clothing and train in tailored compression garments.

SKINS congratulates Alison Shanks on her outstanding victory in the individual pursuit, which made the 2012 world track cycling championships New Zealand’s most successful ever, with a total of five medals - one more than the four medals won in 2010 and 2011.

Shanks set a new personal best of 3:27.268 to best the qualifying and was in front from the second lap. She stretched the gap to 1.5 seconds at the 2000m mark and was in complete control from that point, winning in 3:30.199 on the slower track, with the Northern Irish rider more than two seconds behind.

“When they came out with so many fast times in qualifying I thought man I have to make a PB just to make the final. I was absolutely stoked with my rides today,” Shanks said. “I’ve been world champ before but it is so hard to get. Once you have had that feeling once, you want it again even more.”

BikeNZ is satisfied with the performances at the world championships with the majority of riders performing to targeted goals with some outstanding individual performances.

“Seventy-five per cent of all rides were personal bests for the team and it is our best medal haul at a world championship. High Performance sport is all about constantly lifting the game and our riders are showing that across the board,” said BikeNZ High Performance Director, Mark Elliott.

Elliot had commented previously on SKINS, “The science behind SKINS is irrefutable. In terms of our track programme, it is often measured in 1000ths of a second and the SKINS apparel will provide us with an edge in terms of aerodynamic qualities, performance and recovery.”

EJOT TEAM Buschhütten triathletes finished in seven of the top ten positions at the first ITU World Cup in Mooloolaba.

SKINS has been providing compression products to EJOT TEAM Buschhütten since 2010, the athletes use RY400 products for recovery, A400 Calf Tights MX and the A200 active range. They also wear items for the C400 range for cycle training.

The team is made up of the best triathletes in the world, including Laurent Vidal from France, Australia’s Brad Kahlefeldt, Great Britain’s Will Clarke and Steffen Justus from Germany. The team has won the German Triathlon League in the Team category for the last three years running.

Australia’s Kahlefeldt’s second place meant he missed out on securing three Mooloolaba wins in a row by just one second!

“You’ve got to be happy, I was second and won my sixth Australian title today,” he said. “I tried to gather in Laurent in the last sprint, I thought we went a bit early. I got close to him, I thought if I keep pushing him I may be able to get around him but he’s just too strong. The last couple of hundred he was fantastic. My build up has been mainly strength and endurance, I’m very happy with where I’m at and hopefully I can get better and better throughout the season.”

SKINS partners Ski Austria prepare to jump to win the 2012 World Cup!

Well placed for the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup

This upcoming weekend (15 – 18 March) the finals of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup will take place in the Slovenian ski mecca Planica, with two individual jump events on Friday and Sunday and a team jump competition on Saturday.

In the individual overall ranking, the Norwegian Anders Bardal is leading (1295 points), with Ski Austria jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer currently in second place, just 123 points behind. In third position going into the final weekend is another Ski Austria jumper, Andreas Kofler. Thomas Morgenstern is ranked 6th and Martin Koch in 11th place. In the overall team ranking, Ski Austria are in first place following their outstanding team performance this season. “In Planica there will be a real competition,” promises Alexander Pointner, the coach of the Ski Austria Ski Jumping Team.

Looking back at the Ski Flying World Championships 2012

The season peaked at the Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in late February in Vikersund, Norway on the newly reconstructed (and world’s largest) ski jumping hill.

The Ski Austria team jumped well in the ski flying team event. The quartet of Thomas Morgenstern, Andreas Kofler, Gregor Schlierenzauer and Martin Koch flew into World Championship Gold medal position in front of the German and Slovenian teams. Martin Koch also secured a bronze medal in the individual Ski Jumping competition. Unfortunately, he could not make his jump over 243 meters and he finished third behind the Slovenian Robert Kranjec and Rune Velta (NOR). Kranjec, who like his entire team trains and competes in SKINS, is thus the first ski flying world champion from Slovenia!

What an amazing 60th Four Hills Tournament!

The Four Hills Tournament was another success story for the Austrians. Schlierenzauer was the overall winner of the 60th merited Tour, held in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. The Austrians dominated the events, with Kofler taking 2nd place and Morgenstern 3rd overall.

For the Austrian Ski Jumping eagles, once again, the season is ending with many top achievements and great successes. USA Cycling’s Sarah Hammer wins Omnium Gold Medal wearing SKINS speed suit

SKINS ambassadors USA Cycling sent a roster of twelve cyclists to race over the four day UCI Track World Cup held in the new London Olympic Velodrome.

U. S. cyclist Sarah Hammer raced wearing a SKINS speed suit and performed brilliantly in the six omnium disciplines over two days of racing to claim the women’s gold medal.

Hammer was ranked fourth going into day two of omnium racing after Saturday saw her finish in third-place in the flying lap, ninth in the points race, and eight in the elimination race. On Sunday, the four-time world champ posted a third-place result in the individual pursuit, second in the scratch race, and a fifth-place finish in the 500-meter time trial to move her up to the number one spot.

“I am really, really happy with the performance considering I am just getting over a pretty bad sickness from about 2 weeks ago of overdoing it a bit at our last training camp,”said Hammer afterwards.

“Winning here was not easy and I needed a little bit of luck as the level now is so high with the entire women's field getting better and better each race. It seems like it was meant to be though. I am walking away with a great experience at the Olympic test event and lots of lessons learned.”

Joining Sarah on the omnium podium were Annette Edmondson (AUS) with the silver medal and Laura Trott (GBR) with the bronze.

Following her win on Sunday, Hammer is ranked second overall in the final omnium World Cup standings.

Rory McIlroy's dream of winning the Race to Dubai is still possible!

SKINS ambassador Rory McIlroy expressed delight after winning the Hong Kong Open, one of his favourite tournaments, after a few near misses in recent years.

Rory McIlroy’s triumph at the Hong Kong Open means that his dream of winning the Race to Dubai is still possible if he can win the Dubai World Championship next week and Luke Donald finishes 10th or worse.

Donald said he was not surprised when McIlroy holed his bunker shot at the final hole to win the Hong Kong Open last Sunday, "I fully expected Rory to play well and put some pressure on me," Donald added. "I've always said I think that, of the guys I've played out here on tour, Rory has the most talent that I have ever played with."

McIlroy is attempting to stop Donald from making history by becoming the first player to win the money lists in America and Europe. Donald has so far amassed 3,856,394 euros (£3.3m), while the only man who can catch him has banked 3,066,605 euros (£2.6m).

Winning the Dubai World Championship is worth 922,645 euros (£791,000) and nothing less will do for McIlroy if he is to overhaul the world number one. "I need to play very well to beat a top-class field," the US Open champion said.

However, 22-year-old McIlroy picked up a virus on a recent holiday to the Maldives. "I'm not 100%, but I'm still able to go out and play 18 holes and try to give it my all."

McIlroy said: “The top four players in the world are here, the top 60 in Europe, so it’s going to be a very tough ask. Luke has not finished outside the top nine very often this year. He has won five times in the last 18 months and has just been so consistent. But I feel as if I am playing well and I would love to try my best to overtake him.”

Lee Westwood, one place behind McIlroy in the world rankings at No 3, is as intrigued as any in the drama about to be played out.

SKINS ambassador Paul Collingwood to play in the KFC t20 Big Bash League

Paul Collingwood will play for the Perth Scorchers in the KFC t20 Big Bash League, the Australian domestic Twenty20 cricket tournament.

Collingwood outlined his ambitions on the eve of heading back down under to play for Perth Scorchers in the KFC t20 Big Bash League.

“I’ve retired from playing test cricket for England but I still have the ambition to play one-day and T20 for my country,” Collingwood said.

“If I have a really good six months you never know what can happen. This is an exciting opportunity for me. Although I’m 35 it is a fresh challenge. I’m looking forward to playing in the Big Bash, it’s a big stage and that is where you want to be.”

He said: “I’ll be out in Australia for six or seven weeks playing against some of the world’s best cricketers then playing in the IPL. I’ll miss the opening chunk of Durham’s domestic season but will definitely be cricket-fit by the time I come back.”

The last time Collingwood was in Australia he was celebrating the historic Ashes victory.

“We were fighting for the Ashes this time last year so I’ve got some good memories – apart from Perth where we lost and that is where I’m going to be playing!” he added.

Collingwood has a strike rate of 125 in 35 T20 internationals and has played in 63 domestic games for Durham and IPL side Delhi Daredevils. He has taken 61 wickets at an average of 16.7 with a best of 5-14.

The Perth Scorchers make their debut in the tournament against Hobart Hurricanes at The WACA on Sunday, December 18.

The first ski jump World Cup meet of the season was held in Kuusamo, Finland at the weekend and the Austrian Ski-Jumping team dominated proceedings, winning the team competition and taking the top three spots in the individual event. The Ski-Jumping team have been using a specially designed, made to measure SKINS all-in-one compression suit under their ski-jumping suits since 2009. For the 2011/12 winter season, unique fabric panels have been introduced in key areas to reduce friction between the SKINS garment and the outer layer jumpsuits.

Andreas Kofler won the individual event, with a total score of 264 points. Gregor Schlierenzauer finished in second place with (263.5 points) and Thomas Morgenstern finished third (256.3 points).

The trio also helped Austria to claim victory in the team competition. In that event, Schlierenzauer and Morgenstern recorded long jumps of 152.07 yards and 150.97 yards respectively, helping Austria reach 517.2 points.

Ski Austria athletes fly high with exclusive SKINS compression all-in-one suits

SKINS, the pioneering Australian compression sportswear brand has extended its official partnership with the Austrian Ski Federation beyond the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The new agreement sees SKINS continuing to supply performance enhancing compression garments to the Ski-Jumping team and expanding the relationship to include the Nordic Combined team as well.

The Austrian national Ski-Jumping team have been using a specially designed, made to measure SKINS all-in-one compression suit under their ski-jumping suits since 2009. Alexander Pointner, head Ski Austria ski-jumping coach, comments that these suits “have one of those little advantages that decide medals at the Olympic Games.” Pointner says, “We always strive to improve ourselves in every detail. With SKINS, we have found a partner with a technology that we can positively apply in a number of areas.”

The SKINS Research & Development team works closely with the athletes to trial new technologies and as a result, the all-in-one-suits are constantly evolving. For the 2011/12 winter season, unique fabric panels have been introduced in key areas to reduce friction between the SKINS garment and the outer layer jumpsuits. Athletes are also currently wear-testing the next generation of suits, featuring SKINS 400 Series technologies such as dynamic gradient compression and Memory MX fabrics.

Since the partnership with SKINS began, at the beginning of the 2009/10 winter season, the Austrian Ski-Jumping team have competed with consistent success. The team won gold in the large hill team event at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and claimed gold in both the normal hill and large hill events at the 2011 World Ski Championships in Oslo. Athletes have also won gold, silver and bronze medals in the individual events.
