Biography

The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel competes in the ANZ Championship – the toughest netball league in the world. Since the competition’s inception in 2008, the Steel have earned a spot in the finals twice – 2009 and 2010 – and is testament geography is no hurdle to success on the international sporting stage.

With new coaches Janine Southby and former Australian star Natalie Avellino at the helm, the Otago/Southland-based franchise will compete against the best netballers on the planet once again in 2012 in the quest to bring the silverware to New Zealand soil for the first time.

A host of present and former Silver Ferns have proudly worn Steel colours – Leana de Bruin, Liana Leota, Paula Griffin, Julianna Naoupu, Wendy Frew, Sheryl Scanlan, Daneka Wipiiti, Tania Dalton, Jodi Brown, Erika Burgess, Katrina Grant, Donna Wilkins, Adine Wilson, Jenny-May Coffin – along with two former Australian internationals in Megan Dehn and Natasha Chokljat.
